The Importance Of Personal Development as a Solopreneur
You are about to embark on a journey of being a solopreneur. That in its self is a huge step. So what is the importance of personal development?
Thinking about all the things you need to know and do to run your own business is a huge piece of personal development. But what happens as the months tick by? Is personal development still a priority?
By definition – “personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realisation of dreams and aspirations.”
I have been a solopreneur for over 5 years. At the beginning of my journey, I was a sponge. Personal learning and development was a huge part of the journey and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. In my previous life in a corporate role, personal development and appraisals were a standard part of my working life.
Whilst I don’t want to facilitate employability, I do need to continue learning and growing. It has become apparent to me, over the last 12 months, I haven’t prioritised personal development or done anything significant to grow me? How many of us do when we are busy working away, keeping business going.
I was recently given the opportunity to attend a course which, if done successfully, would mean I would become a Certified mBIT Coach. I won’t go into too much detail what that is, but it made me realise, I hadn’t invested in ME for some time. So why is personal development important:
- It has given me a sense of direction and focus.
- I have made the committment to invest in ME – “enhance my quality of life and contribute to the realisation of dreams and aspirations”.
- Personal development is critical to the success of my business
- Working on yourself is a never ending process – dont’ forget this!
- It has helped me understand myself better and my life purpose.
There are loads of things out there for you, go and research what will work for you and most of all, make the investment in YOU. Regularly.
